About Us - Nellie Burge Community Center
Nellie Burge Community Center was founded in 1904 as a mission of the United Methodist Women. The center was founded to serve children, women and families in need in the Montgomery area. We strive to provide children and families with the fundamental skills to be successful in school and life.
Philosophy
Our purpose is to provide quality affordable childcare services that enhance the cognitive, social, and emotional development of each individual child. We expose your child(ren) to various fields of study such as art, music, phonics, writing, literature, science, math, Bible stories, manners, and gross and fine motor skills. Enrichment activities in the form of indoor / outdoor field trips are offered to provide additional learning experiences.
Goals/Objectives
1. To provide a safe, secure childcare setting within the center where children are receiving loving, nurturing care, as well as, developmentally appropriate learning activities.
2. To facilitate the development of a positive self-concept in each child.
3. To supplement the home experience of the child in order to help him/her to develop into a well rounded individual through group experiences.
4. To provide age-appropriate opportunities for cognitive development through a child-centered curriculum that emphasizes learning as an interactive process; to enable children to learn through discovery in their play experiences in the learning centers.
5. To provide an environment for children that will serve to enrich their understanding and appreciation of the world about them.
6. To help children develop self-reliance and self-control.
7. To provide effective and open communication between parents and staff concerning the welfare and development of the child.
8. To provide well-balanced, nourishing meals for the child, which consist of breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.
9. To promote the child’s intellectual development using toys and materials that are designed to teach basic concepts, and specific skills to promote muscular control and coordination.
